Marc Giró arrived at Cara al show riding on horseback, impeccable, smiling, hilarious, as always. In a very short time, inside the usual elevator, he announced that Estopa, Jordi Évole, Eduardo Casanova, Yolanda Ramos, and Chiara Oliver would be present in this first program. He made a joke about the new television channel that pays him, “La Secta” (The Sect), and brought out a man with a protest t-shirt denouncing the problems of young Spaniards in acquiring housing. The program was conservative, in the sense that Giró didn’t complicate the menu, he asked for a safe environment and that’s what he had during the hour and 40 minutes, including the three advertising blocks.

After appearing from behind a green curtain, of course, he did his monologue. This time he took the opportunity to talk about his signing with Atresmedia, and mentioned some messages received on social media that precisely coincided with the one Pedro Sánchez sent him during the interview Giró gave to Jordi Évole. Everyone asks him not to change in this new television stage, so he did one of the things he does best: he lip-synced and danced ‘vedetísimamente’ (like a showgirl) to the song No cambié (I didn’t change) popularized by Tamara, putting special emphasis on the part of the verse that says “I found a new love and with his kisses I forgot him.” I don’t know, at certain times of the day, one finds fault with everything. Like the greats, he allowed himself a three-second cameo by Leonardo Dantés. The most intellectual Spain enjoyed that quite a bit.

I also really liked the part where he talked about the “prefacha” (pre-fascist), the one who eats sourdough bread, is up to date on series, shows a certain disillusionment with politics that has turned into anti-politics, because it’s a sustained jab at many of his followers.
The interview with the Muñoz brothers was a delight. Estopa is one of the few things left that almost all of us agree on. Let’s quickly review some gems. David has a friend who is a Mosso de Escuadra (Catalan police officer) and a historian and had a problem with him during his leisure time: “When we met for beers, the topic of the Sumerians always came up.” So David started studying History at 50 years old, he’s one of those who gets a 9.7 on exams and asks for a review, and his classmates, the same age as his son, call him “Methuselah.” David’s mother, not content with having two very successful children, has even reproached her son for not studying a career with more job prospects. That woman is all of Spain.

For his part, Jose decided on a cooking course “of five or six months” but since he loves gadgets, he ended up buying a Thermomix. David also collects bibles. They sang a song and it didn’t matter which one because they are, perhaps, the nicest people in Spain.
Jordi Évole and Eduardo Casanova arrived to present the documentary Sidosa. The actor was extremely energetic, but ended up finding warmth there, thanks to Évole’s humor about his own height, his recent arrival to the exciting world of skincare, and that balsamic quality projected by the man from Cornellá. But it was good that amidst the laughter, Casanova talked about HIV, discrimination, his travels, and the places where he buys creams and clothes and meets wonderful people, like that trans woman who owns a bar in Japan who greets you with her genitals in a jar of formaldehyde. “Saint Jordi: book, rose, ‘Sidosa’,” the two repeated between laughs. Others who also seem quite nice.
After midnight, Yolanda Ramos appeared, Giró’s fetish and talisman, a necessary accomplice. Her speech was less witty than other times, a bit rushed and an involuntary homage to Antonio Ozores. It was brief and ended with a phrase that deserves a t-shirt: “I will never leave you if we reach an agreement.” She left dancing and laughing.
How well Chiara Oliver sings, by the way. And how beautiful Margaritas is. The only thing that sounded new in this program that tasted like business as usual.
The premiere of Cara al Show averaged 727,000 viewers and an 8.5% share on La Sexta, slightly surpassing Al Cielo con ella by Henar Álvarez on La 1 (8%), but falling behind Supervivientes: Tierra de nadie on Telecinco and the series En tierra lejana, on Antena 3.
