At least 23 people died and five were injured in the early hours of this Wednesday in southern Brazil in a spectacular crash between a bus and a truck, reported the highway concessionaire. The accident occurred when the truck invaded the opposite lane and collided head-on with the coach on highway BR-373 as it passed through the municipality of Imbituva, in the state of Paraná.

This Sunday, 10 more people died when an illegal transport bus overturned in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro.
The bus involved in the accident this Wednesday belonged to the Imbituva Health Department and was transporting patients to nearby hospitals, according to sources from the Federal Highway Police cited by local media. Via Araucária, the concessionaire company, reported around seven in the morning local time that the highway remained closed due to the crash, causing several kilometers of traffic jams in both directions.
Images of the accident show the bus completely destroyed, a heap of metal and glass, and displaced off the road, a few meters from the truck.

The governor of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior, lamented what happened in a message on social media, expressed solidarity with the families of the victims, and said that security forces are already acting to clarify the causes of the accident. He also decreed three days of official mourning.
