Ignasi Camós Victoria, director general of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), has died at the age of 56 this Thursday, as announced by the Ministry of Culture. A member of the Minister of Culture’s Cabinet since 2021 as a parliamentary advisor, Camós was appointed director of the ICAA in June 2023, following the resignation of Beatriz Navas, when Miquel Iceta was minister. He continued, with the current head of the portfolio, Ernest Urtasun, leading the ICAA, a position he held until his death from cancer. In recent weeks, he had been on leave due to the illness.
A Doctor of Law, Camós worked as a parliamentary advisor in the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (2020-2021) and in the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Immigration (2018-2019). Previously, he was a technical advisor in the Ministry of Education, in the Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels, and held various positions in the Generalitat de Catalunya. In addition, he was a tenured professor of Labor Law and Social Security at the University of Girona and a civil servant of the General State Administration.

The Ministry of Culture thanked, in a statement, “the great work and commitment of Ignasi Camós at the head of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts who, together with his vocation for public service, will leave a great mark on the people and institutions with whom he worked.”
