IU, Comuns, Más Madrid and Sumar reactivate their presentation tour for the general elections on the 30th in Barcelona

The Sumar parties in the Government seek to turn the page after the electoral setback in Andalusia. After the poor results of May 17, Izquierda Unida, Comuns, Más Madrid, and Movimiento Sumar are stepping on the accelerator and will present their project for the general elections in Barcelona next Saturday, May 30. This is the third event of Un paso al frente, the slogan chosen to announce the new coalition that aims to update the political space formed in 2023 as an alternative on the left under the leadership of Yolanda Díaz.

The event will feature ministers Ernest Urtasun, Mónica García, and Pablo Bustinduy, as well as the coordinators of IU and MS, Antonio Maíllo and Lara Hernández.

The announcement comes just three days after Adelante Andalucía, an identity-based party founded in 2019, managed to quadruple its results in the Andalusian Parliament by going from two to eight seats, compared to the stagnation of the list led by Maíllo, which obtained five representatives. The result deepens the crisis of the political space, where several voices these days recognize the “urgency” to define the brand and candidate, also aware of the need to build their own profile against the wear caused by being part of a coalition Government with the PSOE, which faces serious difficulties in legislating and amid corruption cases surrounding some of its leaders, the latest being former president Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

The strengthening of Adelante adds to the success of Chunta Aragonesista in February, and that of BNG in Galicia and EH Bildu in Euskadi.
