La Primitiva is one of the oldest and most popular lottery draws in Spain. It was first played in 1763 under the name “lottery by numbers” although, after being cancelled, it returned in 1985 with its current name but with the essence of the game as always.

In total, it offers a variety of prizes that depend on the number of correct numbers. The different prizes are divided into categories and it is necessary to match three numbers up to the special category which includes six numbers plus the refund. In addition, there is the option to play the Joker, which offers additional prizes with a seven-digit code.
The prize amounts in each category are approximate, as they depend on the total collection and the number of winners.
How to play La Primitiva?
To play, you can choose between a simple bet or a multiple bet.
In the simple bet, six numbers from 1 to 49 are chosen on a ticket, either at a lottery administration or through the official website of State Lotteries and Bets.

In the multiple bet, more than six numbers can be selected, without a fixed limit, both in person and online.
All prize categories
- Special Category: The six winning numbers plus the refund are matched. The jackpot can exceed 10 million euros, depending on the accumulated amount.
- First Category: Six matches. The prize is around one million euros.
- Second Category: Five matches plus the complementary number. Prizes of about 40,000 euros.
- Third Category: Five matches. Approximately 1,500 euros.
- Fourth Category: Four matches. Around 50 euros.
- Fifth Category: Three matches. Fixed prize of 8 euros.
- Refund: Match the refund number. The amount played is returned, usually 1 euro.
Schedule and where to watch the draw
La Primitiva draws are held on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays starting at 9:40 PM. Once the draw is over, the results can be consulted on the official website of State Lotteries and Bets or on the EL PAÍS website.
