The Civil Guard and emergency services, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the arrival, could only attend to the injured. This new wave adds to a crisis that has been pressuring the autonomous city for at least a week and recalls the one experienced in 2021, when about 5,000 Moroccans crossed the border in a single day. The president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, has asked the government to declare a national emergency and assume sole command.

Vox demands urgent appearance of Marlaska and Robles in Congress
Vox has registered this Thursday in Congress the urgent request for the appearance of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the Director of the National Security Department, Brigadier General Loreto Gutiérrez, to explain the migration crisis in Ceuta.
Specifically, Vox asks them to “account for the exponential increase in illegal immigrant arrivals to the autonomous city of Ceuta during July 2026 and the massive assault on Ceuta’s borders during” today and the measures adopted by the government to “address the migration crisis that threatens national security.”

Europe cannot tolerate a government that does not protect an EU external border and expects the rest of Europe to bear the consequences,” adds the vice president of the European People’s Party.
The party also claims a bill registered in Congress two weeks ago that requests that “foreigners detected or intercepted at the border line of the Ceuta or Melilla demarcation during an attempt to enter national territory may be rejected to prevent their entry into Spain.”

In the early hours of this Thursday, hundreds of people entered by swimming along the coasts of Ceuta territory, mostly young, Moroccan males, but some women have also arrived. In recent days, around 1,500 people have swum around the breakwater that separates the borders between Morocco and Spain.
