The Morelos Prosecutor’s Office announced this Wednesday that a judge has issued an arrest warrant against Francisco Javier N, alias El Trompas, for the femicide of Claudia Tacoronte. The State Attorney General, Fernando Blumenkron Escobar, stated that the suspect is already being sought by authorities for fatally injuring the Spanish student who was on an exchange program and living in Cuernavaca while studying Early Childhood Education at UAEM. “The investigative work and videos provided by citizens, among other evidence, allowed the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Investigation and Prosecution of the Crime of Femicide to request an arrest warrant from the judicial authority, which was granted, and elements are being deployed to enforce it and bring Francisco Javier N before a court,” the office said in a statement.
Prosecutor Fernando Blumenkron Escobar indicated that the identification of the suspect was achieved thanks to investigative work in coordination with the Security Cabinet, focused on the crime that has shaken Morelos. “I want to inform you that yesterday we obtained from a specialized judge, the Femicide Prosecutor’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for the femicide of Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, against a male individual. Later today, we will release the profile; this person is named Francisco Javier N and is attributed responsibility for the femicide,” the state official pointed out.
In the security camera videos from neighbors near the Casa de la Cultura, in downtown Cuautla, where Tacoronte was attacked, a man is seen running at the time of the crime. He wears a white sweatshirt and a black backpack. He had been captured on other occasions by surveillance systems during robberies at various businesses in Cuautla. One line of investigation points to an attempted robbery that resulted in the stabbing homicide of the 21-year-old young woman, who had only been in Mexico for a month and had come to Cuautla for the medicinal plants fair.
Tacoronte managed to enter the Casa de la Cultura with serious injuries and ask for help, while the suspect fled the scene. Neighbors tried to assist her, others ran after the man in the white sweatshirt, but he had a significant lead. When medical services arrived, they could no longer save her. Neighbors interviewed by local media indicated that the ambulance arrived around 9:15 p.m., about half an hour after the attack.
Claudia’s murder again focused attention on the brutal femicides in Mexico, where 11 women die daily. UAEM, where the victim studied, had recorded the murder of three other female students in just seven months. The University of Granada, responsible for coordinating Tacoronte’s exchange, stated that it was unaware of the crimes surrounding the public university of Morelos and has suspended its agreement, as well as the scheduled trips of other international students to the state. Spanish authorities have demanded justice and that the circumstances surrounding the murder be clarified “to the end.”
