The right-handed bullfighters Morante de la Puebla and David de Miranda have been the winners of the April Fair, according to the juries appointed by the Real Maestranza de Caballería and the Puerta del Príncipe trophies, instituted by El Corte Inglés, who declared them the author of the best performance and the winner, respectively, of the Sevillian cycle.
Both juries have coincided in many of the distinctions. In fact, when it came to awarding the best cape work of the April cycle, both juries also opted for Morante de la Puebla.
There was also unanimity when it came to awarding the best thrust. The Real Maestranza and the Puerta del Príncipe coincided in distinguishing Manuel Escribano, without disagreeing with the decision to declare Andy Cartagena as the best rejoneador.
The Real Maestranza, for its part, awarded its Copa Grande de Plata, intended to highlight the performance of the best bullfight fought in the cycle, to the Hermanos García Jiménez ranch, and did not coincide with the jury appointed by El Corte Inglés, which in this section voted for the bulls of El Parralejo.
The Copa Pequeña de Plata, which awards the best specimen fought according to the Maestranza awards, will go to the bull Secretario from the El Parralejo iron.
In the cuadrillas section, there were also differences. The Puerta del Príncipe chose Antonio Chacón as the best subaltern of the Fair, and the Real Maestranza jury chose Curro Javier. The noble body awards a second specific prize for the performance in banderillas, which went to Iván García.
In the recognition of the best picador of the cycle, there was unanimity in both deliberations: Manuel Jesús Ruiz Román Espartaco.
The bullfighting awards granted by El Corte Inglés will be presented on May 12 at the Real Alcázar de Sevilla in a special edition for its XL anniversary, which will include a special mention to Curro Romero.
For their part, the trophies of the Real Maestranza de Caballería will be presented along with the awards for the best academic records of the University of Seville from the previous promotion in an act to be held in the bullring before the start of the 2027 season.
The collection of awards is completed with the Doctores Vila trophies, decided by the medical team of the Maestranza bullring to highlight the best artistic cape pass, which also went to Morante de la Puebla for the chicuelinas and gaoneras of his great afternoon on April 20; and the providential cape pass, which went to the banderillero José Luis Neiro, for the one he performed on Manuel Escribano during the banderillas tercio of his second bull in the Miura bullfight.
Furthermore, the College of Veterinarians also chose the bull Secretario, from the El Parralejo ranch, as the best of the Fair. Finally, the Aula Taurina association awarded its Best Bullfighting Lesson prize in its XXXVI edition to Morante de la Puebla.
