The consumer authorities of the autonomous communities have ordered the withdrawal of six models of eclipse glasses due to the risk that their use may cause eye damage, according to the FACUA-Consumers in Action federation reported this Monday.

These are products from the brands Lionstar, ECP Eye Care Proffesional, Pelispan, Homanaje, Orro, and Opticalia whose “irregularities” have been detected by the consumer administrations of the Community of Madrid, Castilla y León, Galicia, La Rioja, and Aragón.
“The six models of glasses share the irregularities detected by the consumer agencies, which may occur in many other products that have been marketed or given away in recent months,” the organization warned.
Consumer notifications state the same in the case of the six models: “The user puts on the glasses to observe the solar eclipse. Since the filter is below the minimum transmittance (excessively dark), the user only sees total darkness and cannot locate the solar disk. As a predictable reaction, and facing the sun, the user slides the glasses up to the forehead, tilts them, or removes them briefly to frame the position of the sun with the intention of putting them back on immediately. During that unprotected interval, the eyes are directly exposed to direct solar radiation (visible and infrared/ultraviolet radiation). A chemical or thermal lesion occurs in the foveal cells of the retina.”
In the case of the Lionstar brand glasses, model LSP1, the product was included on August 5 by the Directorate General of Commerce, Consumption and Services of the Community of Madrid in the alert network for dangerous non-food products coordinated by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 with the prohibition of marketing and immobilization of the located units.
The ECP Eye Care Proffesional brand glasses were included by the Directorate General of Commerce and Consumption of the Junta de Castilla y León in the alert network on August 3, with an order for market withdrawal and prohibition of marketing.
Regarding the Pelispan brand glasses, the market withdrawal order was included in the alert network on July 29, 2026, by the Instituto Galego de Consumo of the Xunta.
Galicia also alerted about glasses from the Homanaje brand, model QW-50Z1, with the same irregularities that imply a risk of eye injuries. In this case, they were included in the alert network on July 29.
The Orro brand glasses with a market withdrawal order and prohibition of marketing are model O37-R, batch 2603-01 (manufacture date 2026-03). They were included in the alert network by the Directorate General of Public Health, Consumption and Care of the Government of La Rioja on July 30.
For its part, the immobilization and market withdrawal order for the Opticalia brand glasses was included in the alert network coordinated by the Ministry of Consumption on July 31 by the Directorate General for the Protection of Consumers and Users of the Government of Aragón.
