The audios of the ‘Leire Díez case’: “My next conversation will be with the director of the Civil Guard […] she is someone I trust”

Although the exact time of this meeting is unknown, the Civil Guard suggests it was around 4:30 p.m. in a law office in Madrid. This is deduced from the recording intercepted by the UCO and which is part of the Leire Díez case file, to which EL PAÍS has had access. Judge Santiago Pedraz is investigating an alleged plot led by former Organization Secretary Santos Cerdán that sought to interfere in police and judicial investigations affecting the PSOE, the Government, and the environment of President Pedro Sánchez.

The recording found by the UCO named “yenes.m4a” lasts just over three hours and 30 minutes. During their investigation, agents confirmed that “at least” three meetings took place between Díez and the current director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, whom she allegedly urged to initiate an “internal investigation” against some agents of the unit involved in corruption cases affecting the wife of the Prime Minister, Begoña Gómez, his brother, David Sánchez, and former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos. The file also records that Díez and González exchanged WhatsApp messages, and that she allegedly activated the deletion of the messages.
