The war between the Community of Madrid and the management of Rayo Vallecano is underway. After the regional Government extinguished the concession of the Vallecas Stadium to the club this Tuesday to carry out “urgent” works due to its situation of “generalized obsolescence” and a “severe regulatory breach” that compromises the safety and operability of the stadium, the Community has filed a complaint with the police because club officials prevented workers from accessing the stadium on Wednesday to start the renovation.

The Community of Madrid, with technicians in gardening, electricity, plumbing, air conditioning, and ventilation, went to Vallecas Stadium at 9:00 this Wednesday to start the works that were to be carried out following the announcement of the concession’s extinction. According to the Madrid Government, “club officials, specifically its Vice President and the Head of Legal Services, refused to grant access to the technical and operational staff designated by the regional Government to perform inspection, verification, and execution functions derived from the precautionary suspension of the concession due to the safety deficiencies detected in the facility.”
This refusal by the club did not prevent these workers from beginning their work in the building adjacent to the stadium—between Payaso Fofó Street and Arroyo del Olivar Street, which is leased to Sports Federations. Only the gardeners who were to take care of a very deteriorated lawn remained idle, waiting to enter the premises.

“This has always been the Club’s modus operandi and it is what is destroying the image and prestige of Rayo Vallecano and the stadium,” said Mariano de Paco Serrano, the Community of Madrid’s Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, who was responsible for announcing the precautionary suspension of the concession on Tuesday.
The Community of Madrid also accuses the club of carrying out “a new delaying maneuver,” as they confirm that Rayo has submitted a document to the regional Administration requesting documentation that is already in the file and has already been sent electronically. “From now on, every day the team cannot play in its stadium will be the responsibility of the club’s management,” warned the minister.
