The monasteries of San Juan de la Peña are saved from the fire of Las Peñas de Riglos in Huesca

Extinguishing efforts have managed to contain the advance of the flames from the Las Peñas de Riglos (Huesca) fire towards the two monasteries of San Juan de la Peña. The work of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) has succeeded in safeguarding one of the main symbols of Aragonese heritage, the Old Monastery. The advance of the flames, which have already devastated more than 15,000 hectares, forced the removal this Friday of some historical assets preserved in the building, such as the bone remains of the Royal Pantheon, which have been transferred to the Museum of Huesca.
