The number two of the Department of the Interior, Tomàs Carrión, has resigned from his position as secretary general of the Department. Carrión was until now the secretary general of the portfolio directed by Núria Parlon. The Department assures that it is a replacement decided by Carrión himself, to “start a new stage” and a “new life project,” and that he is returning to his position as a civil servant in the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona). His position will be occupied by the current director general of Security Administration (DGAS), Joana Ricardo.

Carrión arrived at the Department of the Interior hand in hand with Parlon, directly from Santa Coloma de Gramenet. Together they were part of a team that the councilor recruited from the City Council where she was mayor for more than 14 years. The until now secretary general of the Interior has developed a long career in the metropolitan area City Council, and in the last stage he also served as head of the citizen security area.
The Interior officials have “sincerely thanked” the two years of “dedication, commitment, and public service” of Carrión, whose resignation was reported by El Periódico. The councilor has highlighted his “work” which he has carried out with “great professionalism, extraordinary dedication, and a clear vocation of service,” she indicated through a statement. She also highlighted his contribution to the “reorganization and promotion of the internal circuits of the Department to make it more efficient.”
To replace Carrión, the Department has proposed the appointment of Joana Ricardo Hoyos, who until now served as director general of security administration. Ricardo, also linked to the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, holds a law degree and has a master’s in Public Management and Leadership. A career civil servant of the local administration, she has a long trajectory in the public sector and administrative law, according to the curriculum disseminated by the Department of the Interior.
