Two women die and two minors are injured after a flood in Manzanedo de Valdueza (León)

Two women have died and two minors are being treated for minor injuries after a flood caused a landslide in Manzanedo de Valdueza, in the municipality of Ponferrada, according to the Government Subdelegation in León, with no missing persons. Agents of the force remain in the area monitoring the situation’s evolution, although no increase in the number of fatalities or injuries is expected.

A downpour caused the landslide on the mountain, and the water and mud channeled down Iglesia Street, in the town where a dozen people are registered and which increases its population in summer; in fact, six people were gathered in the cellar where the double death occurred. In Bouzas, another downpour caused several vehicles to be swept away.

112 received several calls around 19:38 warning of the flood and landslides in a very steep town, in a mountainous area, which in 2025 was nearly affected by the El Bierzo fires. The alert was forwarded to the Ponferrada Firefighters, National Police, Local Police, the Emergency Coordination Center, and the Psychological Intervention Group in Disasters and Emergencies (Gripde), who are on site acting.

The Emergency Coordination Center of the Civil Protection Agency has activated the rescue helicopter that has departed for the location. Health emergencies – Sacyl – has sent two ambulances with basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) and medical personnel from the continuous care point (PAC).

The Government Subdelegation has confirmed the death of the two women, of whom no further identification data is available, and that two minors are injured, although their lives are not in danger and they suffer minor injuries.
