United States Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, announced this Wednesday that the Government of Abelardo de la Espriella has authorized Washington to carry out joint military operations on Colombian soil “to combat terrorism.” At the same time, the senior U.S. official reiterated that Colombia will join the Shield of the Americas, the coalition founded by Donald Trump, which already includes about twenty countries to confront drug trafficking networks in the region.
