The State has granted more than 650,000 euros to political parties with representation in the Congress of Deputies in the form of subsidies to “cover the security expenses incurred by political parties to maintain their political and institutional activity.” According to the Official State Gazette (BOE) published this Wednesday, the total amount is 676,541 euros charged to the General State Budgets. This payment corresponds to the expenses incurred by each party during the first quarter of 2026.

The Popular Party, with 137 seats, is the party that has received the most money for security expenses, a total of 242,000 euros. The PSOE has received 190,000 euros, to which the 35,000 given to the PSC must be added. Behind the socialists’ expenditure is Vox, which has received 79,000 euros by virtue of its 33 seats. The Ministry of the Interior, responsible for managing this subsidy, has delivered a total of 77,400 euros to Sumar for the expenses of the first quarter. This figure includes all the parties in the political space that ran in the July 23, 2023 elections, so it also includes the payment for Podemos, which has received 17,800 euros.
By order of seats in Congress and money received, the following parties are Esquerra Republicana, with 13,000 euros, Junts with 12,000, EH Bildu with 10,000, and the PNV, with 8,000. The party that has received the least is Verdes Equo, which also belongs to Sumar and receives barely 800 euros, as it only has one deputy in the lower house.

This subsidy is distributed to the parties in 12 monthly installments and is specific to the security expenses of each party. The Directorate General of Internal Policy is obliged to publish the amount allocated to this subsidy in the BOE each quarter.
Annual income for Security
Annually, the two main parties include in their budget the total amount of the subsidy for Security expenses. In 2025, the PSOE received 761,000 euros in total summing the four quarters, according to the latest internal budgets of the socialist party. The latest budgets published by the PP are those of 2024, and show that they received a total of 969,000 euros.
