A car ran over a crowd on Saturday night near the LGTBI+ Pride Day celebrations in Berlin, the German capital, where the driver is being sought after abandoning the vehicle. So far, one person has died, according to the newspaper Bild cited by Reuters, and fifteen have been injured, Berlin police reported. Officers indicated on the social network X that, along with emergency services, they responded to an incident in Tiergarten park, in the city center, near the Brandenburg Gate, where the event took place.

“We are intensely searching for the suspects,” the police force declared. Hundreds of thousands of people had gathered festively in the German capital for the annual Christopher Street Day (known by the acronym CSD) celebrations, one of Europe’s largest Pride events. The hit-and-run ended those festivities.
“Around 10:00 p.m., a car entered the Tiergarten from Lennéstrasse, injuring several people. We currently have fifteen injured and one person has died,” a police spokesperson explained to the media at the scene, Efe reports.

It was “an attack on our free and cosmopolitan society: after a peaceful and colorful CSD, the celebration for a tolerant and peaceful Berlin was attacked in the most brutal way,” Mayor Kai Wegner denounced on X. “My thoughts are with the victims, their families and friends. I would like to thank the emergency services who immediately arrived at the scene and did everything possible. And I trust the police and authorities, who will investigate with all haste,” he added.
Emergency services are attending to the injured at the scene in the early hours of this Sunday.
