Judge Santiago Pedraz, the instructor of the Leire Díez case in the National Court, has summoned Leonardo Marcos, who was director of the Civil Guard under Pedro Sánchez’s government (he held that position from June 2023 to September 2024), to testify as a suspect. The magistrate decided to take this step after it was requested by the PP, which leads the popular accusation in the open case about the alleged plot devised by former socialist member Leire Díez and Santos Cerdán, former Organization Secretary of the PSOE, to “destabilize” the judicial proceedings affecting the party and the Government. Also indicted in this case are Mercedes González, who replaced Marcos at the head of the armed institute; and Lieutenant General Manuel Llamas, deputy operational director (DAO) of the institution.
