Another witness in the ‘Leire Díez case’ points out that the activist said she was speaking on behalf of “Pedro”

Daniel Mateo, who presents himself as a collaborator of the Civil Guard, testified this Wednesday as a witness before Judge Santiago Pedraz, instructor of the so-called Leire Díez case. Mateo, who organized a meeting between the then PSOE member and a commander of the armed institute charged in the Koldo case, told the magistrate that the socialist said she spoke on behalf of the “one” (the “one”, in English), whom she identified as “Pedro.” “He gave me credibility and fear,” the witness added, according to several legal sources present at the interrogation held at the National Court.

Santiago Pedraz maintains an open investigation into the alleged maneuvers orchestrated by the former PSOE member to “destabilize” judicial processes opened against the party and the government of Pedro Sánchez. The magistrate has also charged Santos Cerdán, former Secretary of Organization of the party. Furthermore, with this Wednesday’s hearing, he has continued the long round of statements from suspects and witnesses, which led him this Tuesday to interrogate two PSOE workers, who claimed that Cerdán authorized the expenses and Leire Díez’s entry into the Ferraz headquarters.

In his statement before agents of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, Commander Rubén Villalba, charged in the Koldo case, already said that Leire Díez contacted him through Daniel Mateo, who told him that the socialist had “special interest in meeting” with him. Along those lines, Mateo detailed this Wednesday to Judge Pedraz that, before arranging that meeting, he contacted Koldo García himself (whom he already knew) to get references about Leire Díez. According to his account, the advisor to former minister José Luis Ábalos told him that she had contacts within the party, that she worked for Cerdán, and that high-ranking PSOE officials answered her calls.

The witness insisted, according to several sources present at the statement, that Díez repeated that she spoke on behalf of “the one” (“the one”, in English) and that, at a certain point, he himself asked her who she was referring to with that nickname. Mateo states that, then, she answered him that “Pedro,” without mentioning the last name.
