The head of Government, Pedro Sánchez, will preside this Friday over a telematic coordination meeting with several ministers about the situation in Ceuta. Sánchez has convened this meeting, in which he will participate from the La Mareta residence in Lanzarote, to address the evolution of the situation in the autonomous city one week after his visit following the massive entry of people from Morocco. The meeting will include the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles; the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska; the Government spokesperson and head of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, Elma Saiz; and the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego. In addition, the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, will travel this Friday to the autonomous city of Ceuta to continue working on the reception of unaccompanied migrant children and adolescents who remain in the city after the massive entry last Thursday. Rego will hold meetings with the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, with the Government delegate in the City, Miguel Ángel Pérez, and other authorities, and will meet with child protection organizations.

The Government will register this Friday in Congress the request for appearance at the own request of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, before the Interior, Foreign Affairs, Defense, and National Security committees, according to sources from La Moncloa, to report on the management of the migratory crisis in Ceuta.
The Executive will propose to the President of Congress that the Defense Minister appear on August 25; the Minister of the Presidency on the 27th, and the Ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs on August 28.

Dolors Montserrat, on the minors of Ceuta: “The Government intends to distribute the consequences of its failure throughout Spain”

The Secretary General of the PPE, Dolors Montserrat, has insisted that migrant minors in Ceuta be identified before considering their distribution among the communities. “The immigration law clearly states that the first thing to do is to verify the individual identification of all minors, to know if they are minors, if they are not minors and, therefore, individual identification must be done,” she said in an interview on EsRadio.
Additionally, Montserrat has stated that the Government “has lost control” of the border: “The State’s first obligation is to protect the external borders, something it did not do a week ago and, therefore, we must prepare in case there is a second invasion, because the Government has lost all control of the border and on top of that intends to distribute the consequences of its failure throughout Spain.”

This time it seems there will be no political battle over the distribution of migrant minors. Unlike what happened in the previous two years, when arrivals in the Canary Islands overwhelmed the archipelago’s reception resources, the PP shows resigned to giving up the clash with the Government after the massive influx to Ceuta. “No one dares to break the law,” they warn in the Executive, convinced that, even reluctantly and despite the pacts with Vox, the communities led by the PP will assume their share, as, in fact, they have already been doing over the past year. Rego will hold meetings with the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, with the Government delegate in the City, Miguel Ángel Pérez, and other authorities, and will meet with child protection organizations.
Additionally, the Senate Board will meet this Friday to process the Popular Party’s request to enable the month of August and to convene at least four parliamentary committees before which it requests the appearance of as many ministers to explain the migratory crisis in Ceuta.
