The fire declared last Thursday in Niebla (Huelva) is in a situation of “extreme complexity” and “beyond extinguishing capacity,” after having covered a perimeter exceeding 20,000 hectares, according to the Minister of Presidency, Health and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, who emphasized that this fire is “a long-distance race with increasingly difficult obstacles, especially because it is a fire that at no time has opened any window of opportunity to tackle it.”

Regarding the 20,000 hectares affected, Sanz indicated that “this is the area covered, not burned zones,” and insisted that it will be the Copernicus system that will provide them later with satellites. More than 600 personnel and up to 26 aerial means are working on extinguishing the fire, the minister said, adding that one must be “realistic”: “There is no forecast that the fire will end imminently. There are hours and probably days of intense work ahead, but we are convinced that we will end up winning this battle,” he explained.

Among the deployed resources are 15 specialist firefighter groups with 11 fire trucks, 10 bulldozers, and a medium-heavy helicopter, as well as emergency technicians. The Military Emergency Unit (UME) has 250 personnel and three machines deployed. A total of 26 aircraft are also working, including those from the Junta de Andalucía and the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
“The night has allowed us to continue advancing, although the extensive perimeter, the orography, and the complexity of the maneuvers require constant and very precise work,” Sanz said this Monday, specifying that the nighttime strategy consisted of executing technical fire combined with the deployment of heavy machinery to consolidate a defense line in the northern area and secure the perimeter surrounding the precautionarily evacuated populations, including the municipality of Berrocal and the villages of El Pozuelo and Marigenta.
There have been no new evacuations, so 474 residents remain outside their homes, mostly in second homes or with family members, while a group of 27 residents is being cared for in the municipal theater of Zalamea la Real by an operation coordinated by the Red Cross, Civil Protection, and the Andalusian Emergency Group (GREA). “That no new evacuations were necessary during the night is positive news, but we cannot rule out that they may be needed during the day. We have all plans ready to act in time and with total safety,” the minister said.

On the other hand, the Infoca Plan declared another fire started this Sunday in the Camino de la Cumbre area of Villablanca, also in Huelva, controlled this morning, where a team of forest firefighters with a fire truck continues working to prevent the reactivation of hot spots.
176 people evacuated in Segovia
A total of 176 people spent the night away from their homes due to the fire declared in Navas de San Antonio (Segovia) and will remain evacuated pending the fire’s evolution, according to the latest meeting of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI), which decided to maintain the Civil Protection measures adopted this Sunday. Thus, residents of Los Ángeles de San Rafael and Vegas de Matute remain evacuated, while the population of Valdeprados remains confined.
According to the entity after the meeting held at 9:00 this Monday, the measures are maintained out of caution due to the weather forecast of southerly winds with gusts up to 38 kilometers per hour, and to ensure there is no danger to the population. The fire reactivated this Sunday and continues with a potential severity index (IGR) of 2, the highest on the Junta de Castilla y León scale, due to the threat it poses to the area’s populations.
Due to the situation, 137 people spent the night in facilities set up in the El Espinar sports pavilion and 39 in the La Panera civic center in Villacastín. Additionally, six people traveled to Zarzuela del Monte to receive care. On the other hand, regarding traffic, the SG-722 road around Valdeprados remains closed along its entire route.
Regarding the fire declared in Revenga, with IGR 1, the N-603 remains closed from kilometer 87 to 64, where the Civil Guard has set up a checkpoint to inform drivers and prevent vehicle passage.
