From ‘Mary Poppins’ to ‘Sully’: Netflix and Disney+ expand their catalog of Catalan dubbings

The audiovisual content platforms Netflix and Disney+ will expand their catalog with new Catalan dubbings of movies and series from 3Cat thanks to the agreement between the Department of Language Policy and the public television of Catalonia. This was announced this Monday by the Generalitat in a statement explaining that the measure is part of its strategy to “increase the audiovisual offer in Catalan on content broadcasting services.”

With the new agreement, Disney+ will add a total of 35 titles dubbed in Catalan to its catalog, including movies such as Mary Poppins, Moulin Rouge, or the Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire.

These movies, which have been broadcast at some point on 3Cat, will now be available on this audiovisual platform with the Catalan language option, as happened with previous agreements with other platforms like HBO Max or Filmin.

Meanwhile, Netflix will add 13 new dubbings from Warner and 3Cat, the result of the aforementioned agreement between 3Cat and Language Policy, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Legend of Tarzan, When You Least Expect It, and Sully.

The inclusion of these dubbings “is complemented by aid lines for dubbing and subtitling feature films and series, the agreement with Movistar+ for subtitling new release movies and series, the Catalan cinema billboard, or the CINCO program for children’s cinema,” according to the department.
