The Mossos d’Esquadra located on Thursday afternoon in a home in Santa Bàrbara (Tarragona) the skeletal remains of the 18-month-old baby they had been searching for since the weekend and whose parents were arrested this Wednesday for their alleged homicide. The Catalan police are inspecting the house in the presence of the parents. In a previous search over the weekend, the agents found several dogs in poor condition, which were taken to a shelter, and others dead.

The parents were arrested on Wednesday morning by the National Police at the North Station in Valencia, following a judicial request from the court of first instance of Amposta (Tarragona), which has an open case after the child’s grandfather reported his disappearance. From the beginning, the police have been working with the hypothesis that the baby’s body was buried in the yard of the Santa Bàrbara home, where they finally found skeletal remains.
The 18-month-old baby was the fifth child of a family living in Santa Bàrbara since 2019, and his birth was celebrated by the City Council because he was the first newborn in the municipality in 2025. Social services were monitoring the family’s progress, according to the mayor, Josep Lluís Gimeno, who detailed that two other children were enrolled in school and integrated into the town.

Despite this, the City Council admitted that it had previously intervened in the home due to the conditions in which they lived, with dozens of animals. The Mossos searched the house over the weekend and found about thirty dogs, some dead and others malnourished. “It was not the best place to live,” Gimeno admitted, arguing that they could not enter the house without a court order.
The Mossos are investigating the causes of the baby’s death, which have not yet been clarified. The court maintains the secrecy of the proceedings. In the last three days, workers from a cleaning company have been responsible for removing garbage trucks from inside the property.
