The Government of Nayarit reported this Friday that the overturning of a bus in the municipality of Amatlán de Cañas, bordering Jalisco, has left at least 7 dead and 27 injured. The latest update indicates that two of the injured are in serious condition and that one of the 35 passengers traveling in the vehicle has not been located at this time. “I deeply regret the accident that occurred this Friday on the Amatlán de Cañas road, where injured people and loss of human lives have been reported,” said the governor of Nayarit, Miguel Ángel Navarro, in a statement released on social media.

The authorities have not yet reported the causes of the vehicle’s fall, which occurred in the community of Pie de la Cuesta, a rural area located seven kilometers from Amatlán de Cañas, through which a route connecting different points of that border area passes. Navarro explained that he requested the immediate attention of emergency and security corporations as soon as he became aware of the accident. “[Since their arrival] they are working on site providing aid, medical attention, and support to the affected families,” the governor pointed out.

Local press reports that the bus was traveling to El Manto, a spa located 20 kilometers from the accident site. The fall led to the mobilization of various authorities, from Amatlán Civil Protection to the State Police and the National Guard. The injured were taken to hospitals in Ixtlán del Río and Amatlán de Cañas, according to news reports. The Government of Nayarit points out that authorities continue with medical care, search, and inter-institutional coordination efforts by emergency and security bodies.
