Civil Protection maintains the Inuncat plan alert and warns of torrential rains in Tarragona

Civil Protection has maintained the Inuncat alert, which it activated this Thursday, due to the forecast of torrential rains tonight and early morning in the Camp de Tarragona and this Saturday morning in the Terres del Ebre area. The emergency service has warned that the episode will be very intense tonight and early morning especially in Penedès and Camp de Tarragona where more than 90 liters per square meter could accumulate in 3 hours. “Be very careful!”, Civil Protection stated on the network. “Do not approach flood-prone areas or cross rivers, streams, and ravines.”

Imma Solé, operational deputy director of Civil Protection, has warned that the rains can be locally intense and accompanied by storms in some points especially in the southern coastal area. “More than 40 liters can be exceeded in 30 minutes and even 60 in three hours,” she said, asking citizens to be extremely cautious in flood-prone areas. “If you find a road, a stream, a ravine, or a flooded path, do not enter either on foot or by vehicle because the water can sweep you away. The storms may be accompanied by hail, strong wind gusts, and wind blasts.”

Catalonia suffered this Thursday an episode with rain, hail, and strong wind that caused damage in some counties of Barcelona, especially in Vallès Occidental. The Generalitat Firefighters attended 94 calls in three and a half hours. Most were to remove fallen trees and damage caused by the wind to urban furniture and floods. The 112 received more than a hundred calls. The firefighters had to assist about thirty drivers who could not remove their vehicles from the Trabucador beach due to the rising sea level and who finally, progressively, were able to leave the area.
