The judge has ordered imprisonment for a couple accused of brutally beating the owner of a house on Espadamala Street, Torelló (Osona), on August 10, leaving him hospitalized in Barcelona in very serious condition. The detainee, a tenant of the property, was the one who called 112. The Torelló Local Police and the Mossos initially opened an investigation for an alleged robbery with violence. The officers took statements from the woman and a man who, according to sources close to the case, either lived or had lived in the same property. Both pointed to hooded thieves. However, contradictions in their statements and the evidence and clues gathered by the investigators allowed their arrest as the perpetrators of the attack. Sources close to the case indicate that the motive for the assault was the fear that she would be evicted from the home.
The events took place around two-thirty in the early morning of last August 10. Upon receiving the emergency call and arriving at the scene, the medical personnel found the glass of the main door broken and a man severely injured who was initially taken to the Vic Hospital but due to the severity of his injuries had to be transferred to Vall d’Hebrón in Barcelona. The officers of the Vic Investigation Unit (UI) took charge of the investigation and soon realized that it was a very disproportionate attack and did not point to a violent robbery. The versions of the two main witnesses kept changing and did not match the evidence.
Given this situation, the witnesses became suspects and finally the officers arrested the 46-year-old man and the 50-year-old woman the next morning on the 11th. On Friday the 14th, they were brought before Plaza 5 of the Civil and Instruction Section of the Vic Court of First Instance, which ordered provisional imprisonment, communicated and without bail for both. The case is open for attempted murder, simulation of a crime, and intentional injuries – those caused intentionally.
The victim, a lifelong resident of the Monserrat neighborhood, was the owner of the two-story house; he lived on the lower floor and the detainee on the upper floor. According to sources close to the case, the main hypothesis for the motive of the attack considered by the investigators is that she was afraid of losing the apartment because her landlord had said on several occasions that he intended to sell the house and leave.
