The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested five men of Turkish origin who, armed with pistols, are accused of holding a compatriot against his will in an apartment in the Fenals neighborhood of Lloret de Mar (Selva). After receiving a warning about possible threats in Lloret to a Turkish resident by armed people, half a dozen Mossos patrols arrived at the scene. After confirming the facts, they arrested the five suspects who were in the victim’s home. They seized three short firearms from them. Now they are investigating whether they could belong to the Turkish mafia.
The events took place around ten o’clock on Tuesday night, when someone called the emergency phone number 112, alerting that in an apartment on Cienfuegos street in the Fenals residential area, someone could be holding the owner at gunpoint, according to sources close to the investigation.
Given this information, several Mossos d’Esquadra patrols went to the scene. The officers did not find anyone on the street and went to the address they had been given. When they rang the doorbell, their tenant opened the door, confirmed the existence of the threats, and let them in. Inside the building, the officers located five other men of Turkish nationality; one of them was hidden on the apartment’s balcony and had three pistols of different models and sizes in his possession. The Mossos arrested them as alleged perpetrators of a crime of threats, coercion, and illegal possession of weapons.

Agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of Girona have taken charge of the investigations and are trying to ascertain the origin of the detainees, who settled here not long ago. One of the hypotheses being considered, according to sources close to the case, is that they are members of the Turkish mafia, which has had a stable presence in the territory for some time and is basically dedicated to cocaine and arms trafficking and extorting businessmen to receive large sums of money.
The alleged victim of the events has a criminal record, and now investigators, in contact with Interpol, are trying to find out where the detainees were established before arriving in Spain, if they have a criminal record, and for what offenses. The Mossos are looking for evidence and clues, and are trying to ascertain if the seized weapons are involved in any criminal offense in Spain or any other country. Meanwhile, the detainees remain at the Blanes police station, awaiting their appearance before the duty investigating judge in the same town.
