Catalonia has recorded four new cases of African swine fever (ASF) in wild boars within the high-risk zone this past week, raising the total positives detected since November 2025 to 379. The new ASF positives were specifically located in the Catalan capital (two cases), Molins de Rei, and Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona), according to the weekly report published this Thursday by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
Since the detection of the first outbreak, authorities have analyzed a total of 11,029 wild boars, of which 10,650 tested negative, and no positive cases have been detected in domestic pigs. The Government has highlighted that “intense efforts to search for wild boar carcasses” continue, as well as actions to reduce the populations of this species in the area, mainly through the use of capture traps and population control carried out by rural agents and trained hunters.
Likewise, the Generalitat emphasizes that “a high level of alert is maintained with reinforced passive surveillance and biosecurity” in pig farms and wild boar populations, both in Catalonia and the rest of Spain.

Due to the ASF crisis, Barcelona’s great green lung, the Collserola park, is closed to the public, as it was there that the first infected specimens were found and later others were detected. The Catalan Government warned that it wanted to cull all wild boar colonies in the area.
