The best smart ceiling fan
With the arrival of heat also come multiple alternatives to try to stay cool inside the house. Ceiling fans (also with light) are one of them; an ideal complement to air conditioning, especially at night, helping to enjoy a gentle breeze that helps to fall asleep and rest better, while making very little noise.
How we have chosen and tested the products
At my house, I have had two of this type installed for 3 years: the first time I tried them for a comparison I thought “I need one,” especially for my son’s room, since on hot summer nights he sleeps with the window closed for safety, and I needed a silent solution that would keep him cool and that I could control without entering his room to avoid disturbing him. Since then, we use it practically daily when temperatures rise.
For testing these smart ceiling fans, I followed the routines I will follow in summer: checking the different ventilation levels, programming options, and lighting. Also, I installed them myself with the help of my partner. The truth is that, although the first time you do it is quite complicated—especially the step of inserting the motor into the ceiling mount and making sure everything fits well so it can ‘close’—all models install the same way and, once you learn, it is quite simple and quick.
Based on that, the aspects I have evaluated in this comparison are the following:
- Design. Build quality, aesthetics, material durability…
- Installation. How the process is (there are slight variations between models) and how detailed the assembly instructions are.
- Control. Both from the remote control and from the app installed on the mobile phone.
- Operating options. How many speed options they have, possibility to adjust lighting, timers, programming…
- Others. From the noise they make when spinning to additional features.

Who is it for: for those looking for a powerful and easy-to-use fan.
Why we recommend it: available in three colors (white, black, or silver) and with different tones on its blades, this smart ceiling fan makes very little noise (less than 35 dB) so it is really quiet to sleep with it all night. Its installation has been quite simple thanks to its clear instructions and afterwards it is very easy to handle via the remote control or through the app. To operate it, it has six speeds and three preset modes to move the air: normal, natural, or sleep. The airflow is quite powerful (up to 3100 CFM), although at the higher speeds.
During the tests, I used the three modes and different speeds both at night and during the day. For daytime hours, the medium speed is the most comfortable because it has enough strength to cool the environment, but without being too strong, while for the night it is best to choose one of the preset modes. The one I liked the most was the one indicated for sleeping or the natural, since the airflow is much softer but stable.
It includes a timer of up to 8 hours which is very convenient if you do not want to have the fan on all night. It is also compatible with Alexa and Google Home. In my case, I tested it with Alexa and it works perfectly: it performs different actions immediately and recognizes the voice instantly.
Its weak points: nothing noteworthy.
In multiple finishes: Create Wind Calm
Who is it for: those looking for a highly customizable smart ceiling fan.
Why we recommend it: it is available in a wide range of finishes, both its motor (there is even a blue one) and its blades. It is also available with and without light and with remote control or wall controller or with Wi-Fi. It even comes in three sizes depending on the room dimensions!
Its installation is the easiest of all, with very detailed step-by-step instructions and greater comfort in some steps (for example, when you ‘hang’ the motor while connecting the cables, your hands fit perfectly). It has six speeds, winter mode, and the possibility to adjust the intensity of the three color temperatures of its lamp: warm (3000k), neutral (4000k), or cool (6500k).
The remote control allows you to control all this, as well as set a timer between 1 and 4 hours, for example. From the mobile, it is controlled with the CREATE app, which divides the options related to the lamp on one side and the fan function on the other. In both cases, they can be turned on and off, and a slider appears for brightness (with values from 1 to 100) and the six available speeds. For lighting, the color temperature is selected with a single touch.
Its weak points: aesthetically it has a more industrial design than other models (which can be positive or negative, depending on the room) and it is somewhat noisier.

Why we recommend it: it is compatible with assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant, so besides controlling it from the mobile, I was able to link it to them to give voice commands. The options are limited, but at least turning it off and on or dimming the lighting is possible. That said, the app it uses is Smart Life, a generic one shared by different brands (usually of Chinese origin) that I already used with a humidifier-ambienter. It is quite simple, but I like that it allows integrating them all into the ‘virtual’ home to create automations between them. As soon as I pressed search for new devices, it appeared in the list and was working in seconds.
The options are quite similar to the rest. For example, it allows choosing between three color temperatures — warm white (3000K), natural light (4500K), and cool white (6000K) — and I especially like that it ‘has memory,’ so it turns on in the last chosen setting. Also, the fan has 6 speeds and can be programmed to run for 2 or 6 hours. I found it easy to install and, although I put it in a room, it is also suitable for outdoors, as it is moisture resistant.
Its weak points: the configuration options are quite limited and its LED lamp illuminates much less than those integrated into other options.

Who is it for: users who need a ceiling fan for a bedroom.
Why we recommend it: this fan was the model I found hardest to install on the ceiling: the instruction manual is not very detailed, so I opted to look for a tutorial on the Internet to help me with the task. The fan itself is very beautiful, with three blades of 132 centimeters in diameter; an ideal size for our 17m2 bedroom. The light intensity is also suitable for this space, although I feel it is too low for spaces like a studio or living room, where I personally need stronger light. What you can do is choose between a cool, neutral, or warm tone. It has six speeds to regulate the airflow and I found it really quiet, especially at the first levels. In this sense, setting it to 2 cools considerably, and 1 seems perfect at night. It can also be placed outdoors, as it has IP44 certification, being water resistant.
It includes a remote control, with which it can be controlled remotely and programmed to operate up to 4 hours, and it is complemented by use through an app. The truth is that linking it was not especially easy either—I got errors several times. When I finally succeeded, I found a very simple interface with which I could manage all options very easily.
Its weak points: the light is too dim for certain rooms, and linking with the smartphone is not easy.

Do they consume a lot?
No. Modern models use a DC motor, which is much more efficient than those of old fans. Between 20 and 80 W and if they have light, between about 20-30 W.
Can they replace air conditioning?
