How we chose and tested the products
In my personal case, I have tried dozens of facial masks in recent years, both in single-dose format and in reusable containers, belonging to very diverse brands: from those found in pharmacies to high-end brands. I have had a preference for two types: soothing, as my skin is very sensitive; and purifying, to keep it always clean. And I usually incorporate them as part of my weekly beauty routine: after cleansing my face with an electric facial cleanser —I use Foreo Luna 4—, I apply one of these products while I relax for a while reading or watching TV. Then, I remove it and continue with my night serum.
For this comparison, I have selected six products with different approaches (hydrating, purifying, and revitalizing), always taking into account my skin type: very sensitive, with some flaking, and combination (with some oiliness in the T-zone). Depending on the type of mask, I have been able to test them several times, seeing more continuous results, or just once, always following the brand’s instructions and recommendations and on clean skin. Among other things, I have evaluated their texture, ease of application and removal, key ingredients, and, above all, the visible short-term results: hydration, softness, luminosity, and a feeling of comfort after use.

The day I tried it, I had been having duller skin for several days and also had a slight headache, and I was looking for something quick before going out for a family plan. When I put it on —it comes in two parts, one for the upper and one for the lower part of the face—, I noticed an immediate and very pleasant cold sensation, and also that the fabric was very well impregnated, quite juicy, but without dripping excessively. I left it on for 15 minutes while I relaxed, and upon removing it, I noticed quite evident hydration and a plumper skin effect, especially in the cheek area. I didn’t use foundation, just a little concealer, blush, and mascara, but the skin looked luminous and beautiful. Regarding the formulation, one of its strengths is the feeling of intense hydration. Its weak points: it is not an economical mask. Furthermore, although the fabric is of good quality, it is not the one that best adapts to the face. In my case, especially in the area of the sides of the nose, I had to readjust it several times.

Why we recommend it: this mask is specifically for nighttime use: a generous layer is applied to the skin, and you go to sleep with it on. Its texture is very silky and light, and it absorbs immediately upon application, leaving a soft sensation. It doesn’t stain sheets and doesn’t stick to hair.
The first time I used it, when I woke up in the morning and after washing my face, I noticed that my skin was softer and more elastic, and its appearance was also more luminous, even after sleeping poorly. The effect is not as ‘wow’ as that of some ‘sheet mask’ type masks, like the winner of the comparison, but after using it for a few weeks, I have seen how the effect lasts longer. On one occasion, I even applied it during the day before putting on makeup, as I had seen some comments that it could be used for its plumping effect to prepare the skin, and I really liked the result (in this case, I applied less quantity). I have been using it three times a week, and I notice my skin is more hydrated, softer, and less tight, even after washing with soap.
Its weak points: it has a very peculiar smell, and if you like fragrance-free formulas, you probably won’t like it.

Who it’s for: those who want to add extra luminosity to their skin before an event.
Why we recommend it: this mask is specifically designed to add luminosity to the face, so I used it one morning when I had a family event before applying some makeup. I have tried it three times, because although it is a ‘sheet mask’ type mask, it can be reused: the packaging comes with a zip closure to store it in good condition. The back has instructions in several languages, including Spanish. I particularly like the presence of ear holes, which makes it much easier to put on (and less prone to slipping) than other options of this type. The sensation when I put it on was quite peculiar, as there was no moisture or cold, as usually happens: the fabric is dry, because it is based on a technology that impregnates it with active ingredients that are activated by the heat of the skin and massage. So it wasn’t enough to just put it on and wait: during the 15 minutes I had it on, I gently pressed the mask against my face with my hands, as recommended by the brand. In my case, I did it while watching a series.
The specific day I used it for the first time, my skin felt tight and lacked luminosity, and when I removed it, I noticed it was much smoother to the touch, with a more even finish and an extra boost of luminosity that was especially visible in natural light. I have to say that this first time I noticed the effects much more than the other two.
Its weak points: although the ear loops help keep it in place, the mask does not adapt equally well to all faces and stretches a little with use. In my case, I noticed that it did not fit very snugly around the nose and mouth area, which forced me to readjust it occasionally or to press more with my hands to ensure contact.

From the first use, I was struck by how it behaves on the skin: I applied it to a clean face and felt a peculiar, very pleasant ‘shot’ of freshness; it has a very fresh effect (it reminded me of when you apply Vicks VapoRub or something similar). The sensation of cleanliness and luminosity was clear —though gradual, I noticed it more as I continued using it— and it’s definitely something I also notice when I apply makeup after using it: the foundation settles better, and those typical shine spots are more controlled throughout the day.
The consistency, creamier than other pure clays, makes it easy to apply evenly without hardening too quickly. After letting it act for 20 minutes, removing it with lukewarm water was simple and without excessive tightness. When I looked in the mirror, what I noticed most was that my skin was visibly more luminous and with somewhat smaller pores, particularly in the T-zone where I tend to accumulate oil.
Its weak points: I perceived greater luminosity after several applications, but it is not as spectacular a result as some masks focused exclusively on illuminating the skin. The brand recommends leaving it on for between 15 and 30 minutes, but I found that if I got distracted and left it on near the maximum time, the mask tended to harden more than it should, which made removal a bit more laborious. That’s why I adjusted my use to around 15-20 minutes to avoid excessive dryness.

In fact, on more than one occasion I have used it even when my skin was a little more sensitive than usual —for example, after several days of using exfoliating actives— and I have not noticed irritation.
The texture is dense, quite typical of mud masks, but easy to spread. The first time I made the mistake of applying too much, which made it take a long time to dry and made removal a bit more cumbersome. From the second application, I adjusted the dose better —a thin layer, without completely covering the skin— and the experience improved significantly. To remove it, it’s best to use lukewarm water, and I use a soft sponge.
Its weak points: you have to be consistent to notice the results. Also, drying time must be taken into account: the brand recommends leaving it on for about 10-15 minutes, but in my case, there have been days when it took a little longer to dry completely, especially if the layer was a bit thicker or if the ambient humidity was high.
