The fire in the Collserola natural park, north of Barcelona, has burned 45 hectares and is stabilized, the Firefighters explained this Wednesday from the control center, although there are active spots on the perimeter. The city’s residents went to bed on Tuesday with a strong smell of burning due to the fire declared around three in the afternoon and pushed by the wind, which forced the preventive confinement of two neighborhoods (Torre Baró and Ciutat Meridiana) and even the evacuation of about thirty houses on Castellví and Lliçà streets. The confinements have been lifted, explained Deputy Mayor Albert Batlle. The fire chief, Sebastià Massagué, explained that the main concern is the secondary spots: “This calls for caution before declaring it controlled, although we have it perimetered. We are optimistic.” The central hours of the day will be key if there is wind, he said.
The fire, in which 70 ground and air personnel have worked, also keeps three roads closed (the cemetery road, alta de Roquetes, and the one connecting Horta with Cerdanyola) and forced the closure of the metro stations in the two affected neighborhoods. The drop in temperatures during the night and the increase in humidity have helped in control tasks during the night, although the wind blew at dawn. The Rural Agents are investigating the causes of the fire.

The fire, which burned 35 hectares on Tuesday, is concerning due to the large forest mass in the mountain range and the proximity of inhabited areas. During the afternoon, Civil Protection sent two EsAlert messages to the mobile phones of the 14,000 residents of Torre Baró and Ciutat Meridiana asking them to stay home, due to the proximity of the fire and smoke.
