The Government announced this Tuesday a package of aid to Ceuta worth 309 million euros, which represents “a shock response” that “addresses the requests of social agents” and the city Government, assured the Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, after the Council of Ministers. “The main objective of the decree is to give confidence to both companies and workers,” declared Cuerpo. The decree includes an allocation for the reception of migrant minors of 118 million euros, of which 60 will be directed to Ceuta and the rest to the Ministry of Social Inclusion and Migrations, which carries out assistance activities in the city.

During the press conference following the meeting of the ministers and the president of the Government, the spokesperson minister, Elma Saiz, stated that “relations with the Royal House are good” and proof of this are “the usual and absolutely fluid meetings.” Saiz explained that the details “of a visit that is not organized,” referring to Pedro Sánchez’s statement about an upcoming trip of King Felipe VI to Ceuta, will be given “always when they are known.”
The Council of Ministers has approved the royal decree-law of urgent social and economic measures to support the city of Ceuta, which also includes 90 million euros dedicated to strengthening security and 80 million destined for direct aid and other types of support to companies and workers. Essential services, such as health, education, justice, or water distribution, will receive 21 million.

Additionally, the Government has approved a new list of spaces to house migrants who remain homeless in Ceuta, including plots in the port, land from the Ministry of Housing, and a barracks, while sports centers, the flour factory, and the military hospital are being removed, as requested by the Ceuta Executive.
