The former general secretary of the PP, María Dolores de Cospedal, stated this Thursday in her declaration at the trial of the Kitchen case that she met with Commissioner Villarejo “eight or nine times” and always at the initiative of the former police officer. Her meetings, she affirmed, were in her capacity as general secretary of the PP and usually took place in her office at the party headquarters. Cospedal has completely disassociated herself from any surveillance device for the party’s former treasurer, Luis Bárcenas. She neither ordered it nor knew it existed, she stated at the Audiencia Nacional. Cospedal highlighted the bad relationship she had with Bárcenas and said that, once he was fired from the PP, she did not want to know anything more about him. She was not in charge of his dismissal, she explained, but she did recall that there were up to “27 boxes” belonging to Bárcenas that were at the Génova headquarters for two months without anyone coming to collect them.
The PSOE lawyer, who is acting as popular prosecutor in the case, wanted to insist on Bárcenas’ dismissal, and at that moment of the interrogation, a skirmish occurred with the president of the Court, who indicated that the question was not appropriate:
—Could you tell us who communicated his dismissal to you? —the lawyer questioned.
—I don’t know —Cospedal began to answer.
—Excuse me, Mrs. de Cospedal, the question is not appropriate. It is absolutely irrelevant to the facts of the accusation, but you have already answered it.

—And do you know who was in charge of his departure? —the lawyer insisted.
—That is along the same lines as the previous question, so it is not admissible —the judge interrupted again.
