The bullfighter Jordi Pérez, known as El Niño de las Monjas, born on March 24, 2000, in the Valencian town of Carlet, suffered a dramatic goring in the neck yesterday Wednesday during a bullfighting event held in the Peruvian plaza of Monte Carmelo, in Huallanca (in the province of Bolognesi), located 409 kilometers north of Lima, the capital of the country.
According to the diagnosis of Dr. César Baltazar, who was able to attend to him via video call, the goring did not affect arteries, veins, or major blood vessels and did not compromise the trachea either. In a conversation with the Mexican portal Toros en el Mundo, the doctor described the wound as serious, “although it is under control and its evolution has not presented major complications so far.” The bullfighter does not need assistance with a breathing tube because the goring only affected muscle tissue.
The incident occurred when the bullfighter stumbled and lost his balance while trying to fix his bull with the cape; once on the ground, he received a dry goring in the neck that immediately caused heavy bleeding.
Due to the absence of nursing and medical equipment in the plaza, El Niño de las Monjas was carried on a stretcher through the streets of the town and accompanied by several people to a health center that was closed, so he could not receive medical attention.

Fortunately, he was stabilized under the guidance, via video call, of Dr. Baltazar and was later evacuated to the city of Huaraz, in a journey of about three hours.
Like other bullfighters who do not get contracts in Spain, Jordi Pérez has traveled to Peru, where many bullfighting events are held in small towns that do not have the human and technical resources to handle an accident like the one this Valencian bullfighter suffered.
El Niño de las Monjas owes his name to the Hogar de los Desamparados de Valencia, where he was cared for by nuns from the age of 11. Under the guidance of his protectors, he entered the Bullfighting School of the Valencian capital. He debuted with picadors on September 19, 2019, in Algemesí; on July 22, 2022, he appeared in Madrid in the night novillada contest Cénate en las Ventas, and repeated on August 11, 2024. On September 14 of that year, he took the alternative in Utiel (Valencia), with Alejandro Talavante as godfather and in the presence of Emilio de Justo.
