The Valencian socialists have sworn this Saturday in Alicante to gain power of the Generalitat in next year’s regional elections. Diana Morant, general secretary of the PSPV-PSOE and candidate to preside over the Consell, and the national leadership’s Organization Secretary, Rebeca Torró, have called to win and transform Valencian society against the policies of the PP and Vox.

Morant has stated that it is necessary to “go back to governing” and “overturn the Francoist laws, the sexist laws, the LGTBIfobic laws, the laws of national priority.” “We are going back to the founding values of democracy,” she added, while calling to “protect” public education and indicating that “every right” and “every freedom,” healthcare, universities, and every “social advance” matter.
She expressed this during her speech at the Political Conference of the Valencian socialists, held this weekend at the University of Alicante (UA) under the motto Recover what matters. The event gathered, among others, Torró, the Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, and the candidates for the mayoralties of València, Alicante, and Castelló, Pilar Bernabé, Trini Amorós, and Rafa Simó, respectively.
The also Minister of Science criticized the management of the October 29, 2024, DANA by the Consell of former president Carlos Mazón and also the one carried out by the Generalitat presided over by Juanfran Pérez Llorca during this week’s latest rain episode. “They are not fit to protect us,” Morant emphasized, then adding: “We will send them home.”
Likewise, she remembered the victims of those floods almost two years ago and their families, whom they will “never” “abandon,” she said, until “they have the answers and truly restorative justice.”
She pointed out that a regional government is needed that “is not always a victim of everything” and defended that in the previous Botànic government, led by Ximo Puig, they were “capable” of managing the crisis arising after the 2019 DANA in Vega Baja, which recently marked seven years.

Morant has criticized the return to school with high temperatures and in “portable classrooms,” in “overcrowded” classrooms, where the “real needs” cannot be met and with teachers “without energy.” She also criticized waiting lists in healthcare and referred to breast cancer screenings, while asserting that the Popular Party tries to “make a business out of what is a right.”
According to Morant, the president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, “missed celebrating his back-to-school event” and said that this Saturday “they were going to name him” PP candidate for the Generalitat, but finally “it was not so.”
She also referred in her speech to the problems of access to housing and the case of public protection housing (VPP) of Residencial Les Naus de Playa de San Juan, whose allocations are being investigated by a judge and which was built on land that belonged to the Alicante City Council and was alienated. On this matter, she pointed out that the socialists stand “up to” the “shameless” who “keep the houses” and ask them to “return them because housing is a right and not a business.”
Furthermore, the socialist candidate urged “all” girls and women “never to allow a man to tell them they are worthless.” She referred to the message from the president of the Valencia Provincial Council and leader of the PP in this province, Vicent Mompó, who called her a “bootlicker” of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and told her she “was worthless.”
Torró, for her part, urged to repeal “point by point” the so-called “napkin pact,” signed between the PP and Vox after the 2023 elections. And she warned the PP: “No matter how many lies, version changes, face changes, and forward escapes they have given to this land, the mud stains do not wash away. This land remains, unfortunately, stained by the mud of their management.” Therefore, she called to “go out to vote en masse” in 2027 to “clean the institutions and recover what matters” with Morant and “all the strength of socialism behind.”
