A woman was murdered this Friday in Santander. It happened in an apartment in the San Fernando area, right in the center of the Cantabrian capital. The Government delegation against Gender Violence reports on its X account that they are gathering information about what happened and are investigating it as a possible case of gender-based violence.

The events took place at noon. While the police intervention was taking place inside the home, several national police officers stationed themselves at the street-level entrance in front of the stunned neighbors coming out of nearby bars. A woman fainted upon arriving at the entrance while several neighbors from the same staircase, very distressed, tried to comfort her.
This Friday, the Civil Guard also arrested a man in the Malaga municipality of Istán for his alleged connection to the murder of a woman last week in Benahavís, reports Nacho Sánchez. The woman was found dead with signs of violence on July 21. Initially, the investigation ruled out gender violence in this crime, since, according to the Government delegate in Andalusia at that time, Pedro Fernández, “there is no confirmed relationship of partner, ex-partner, or romantic involvement between the suspect and the woman,” who was 45 years old.
Since June began, in Spain nine men have murdered nine women. Only in one of those cases was there a prior complaint; in seven, they lived in the same house, and in four they were in the process of breaking up. Of the nine aggressors, two have committed suicide and three have attempted it. And from that violence, nine boys and girls have been left orphaned. These data are the brief snapshot of murders due to gender-based violence over the last two months and come from the latest crisis committee ― a meeting between the Ministry of Equality, Justice, Interior, and the autonomous communities ― convened on Tuesday after last week’s cluster: a concentration of three murders that occurred in just 24 hours, between Monday and Tuesday.
So far this year, 32 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners. Since the official statistics began in 2003, the total is 1,373 women.
