Donald Trump’s envoys, his son-in-law Jared Kushner and businessman Steve Witkoff, arrived in Kiev this Sunday, hours after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the aim of boosting talks to find a solution to the conflict.

Their visit to the Ukrainian capital, the first for both since the start of Trump’s second term in January 2025, coincides with an increase in missile and drone attacks by both sides.
In a message on the Telegram network, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who personally received Trump’s envoys at the Kiev railway station accompanied by the Ukrainian negotiating team, stated that his country is ready for a “constructive” conversation.
“We are interested in bringing the war to an end,” the president wrote. “Security guarantees are needed. A dignified peace in the post-war period is needed. It is important to work in a coordinated, substantive, and realistic manner,” he added.
Both Putin and Zelensky have ordered a suspension of attacks against Moscow and Kiev until Monday, due to the presence of the US envoys.
On Saturday, when receiving Kushner and Witkoff, Putin, who years ago bet on distancing Washington from Ukraine while sowing discord in Europe with sabotage, praised US leadership. “I understand that [President Trump] is generally facing a difficult situation, but he continues to strive to resolve and contribute to the solution of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” he said.
