The first gestures of international aid for Colombia have not taken long to arrive after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook the country for four minutes this Monday, causing at least 25 deaths. United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has extended a helping hand to the Colombian people and assured that the Donald Trump Administration is ready to send humanitarian aid. The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has indicated that her team is attentive with the Mexican embassy in Bogotá. “Of course, all the support that the people of Colombia require, if necessary, we will be there,” she said in her morning press conference.

Rubio has asked American citizens to register with the consular registry and follow the instructions of the United States embassy in Colombia. “The Trump Administration is closely monitoring the major earthquake that struck Colombia and is ready to support the people of Colombia and the Administration of President Abelardo de la Espriella,” he wrote on his X profile. The Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs has assured that for the moment there are no Mexicans among the list of victims. “Mexico expresses its solidarity with the people and government of Colombia in the face of this unfortunate event. Contact has been established with the Colombian Foreign Ministry, to whom Mexico reiterated its willingness to provide all the support required,” the agency highlighted.
From Brazil, President Lula da Silva has joined the wave of support after the tragedy and assured that his country is available to send all the aid required by the government of the newly elected Abelardo de la Espriella. “I received with concern the news of the strong earthquake that hit Colombia today, with its epicenter in the department of Chocó. On behalf of the Brazilian people, I express my solidarity with the Colombian people, especially the families of the victims and all those affected by the tremors,” the Brazilian wrote on his social networks.
