The alarm message was issued by the U.S. consulate in Tijuana. The diplomatic mission has not provided further details on the matter.

Last week, Mexican authorities seized 120 kilos of fentanyl pills — about 4 million doses — in the state capital in a joint operation by federal and state agents. The operation resulted from an “exchange of information” with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), according to Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch.
The consulate has asked Americans in Mexicali to avoid government buildings, seek shelter “in case an incident occurs,” and remain alert. In the brief note from the mission, the United States also indicated that all official travel to the city has been suspended.

Last week’s operation was carried out in a property linked to the criminal group Los Rusos, according to information released by Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration. The Army, Navy, Prosecutor’s Office, and the federal Security Secretariat participated in the operation.
In his message on social media, Harfuch, who has earned a reputation as the strongman behind the Mexican president’s strategy against the cartels, highlighted that the seizure was the result of “international cooperation” between Mexico and the United States to achieve “concrete results against criminal organizations and their logistical structures.”
