A fire burns forest in Collserola, above the Canyelles neighborhood of Barcelona

A fire that broke out after three in the afternoon is burning an area of forest and bushes in Barcelona, over the Canyelles neighborhood, in the Collserola mountain range, which is a Natural Park. Firefighters are already working in the area, after receiving nearly 400 calls, the Barcelona City Council has confirmed. The Canyelles neighborhood, one of the so-called mountain neighborhoods of the city, is next to Collserola, just before a wooded area where the old farmhouse of Can Masdeu (now a social center and surrounded by gardens) and the Sant Llàtzer hospital are located.

The fire is visible from the high area of Barcelona and the 11 phone line has received nearly 400 calls reporting it, the Generalitat explained. Ground resources and at least one helicopter are working on extinguishing it.

This is the second fire in the Collserola mountain range, the green lung that connects the city with the Vallès region, with areas of forest, cultivation, and inhabited nuclei. In August, another fire broke out near Esplugues de Llobregat. On August 14, the Urban Guard arrested a man for his alleged connection to the fire, which burned 10 hectares of the natural park. The agents located him near Pearson Avenue, close to where the fire started, and he was taken to police facilities.
