The couple had been found stabbed to death inside their home this Saturday night in their residence in Tauste (Zaragoza). From that moment on, everything was full of questions. The couple was very well known in Aragón. He had been secretary of the Union of Farmers and Ranchers of Aragón (UAGA). Esther had also been a prominent member of the union, a pioneer in defending the rights of rural women. The woman had run for mayor of her town for United Left. Everyone around them highlights that they were tremendously active in defending social issues, the rights of farmers, both in Spain and abroad, and pacifism.
On Saturday night, their lifeless bodies were found inside their home in Tauste, with obvious signs of violence. At that moment, the Civil Guard opened an investigation that has concluded with the arrest, this Monday, of one of the couple’s daughters and her current partner, a man of Colombian origin, as the alleged perpetrators of the double homicide.
The Civil Guard continues the investigation to reconstruct the events and for this, the agents are focused on the on-site inspection of the home where the couple was found and on gathering evidence that will clarify what happened. The detainees will be brought before the Court of First Instance of Ejea de los Caballeros.

Almost from the beginning, the hypothesis of gender violence followed by suicide and also that of a violent robbery were ruled out. There was no sign of violence between the couple, who formed “a team,” according to everyone around them from the start. Robbery was also ruled out since the door of the home, in a row house area on the outskirts of the town, had not been forced and initially nothing valuable was missing inside the home.
The investigation quickly focused on the couple’s environment and possible problems within it. The daughter became one of the suspects. According to sources close to the victims, the daughter has a mental health problem, although the role this condition may have played in the crime and the motive for the homicide are yet to be determined.
