Storms, hail and wind gusts arrive in the northeastern peninsula

The week will begin with storms in the Ebro valley, Navarre, the Iberian system, and the Pyrenees this Monday, according to forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The storms may be accompanied by hail and very strong wind gusts. They will also bring showers to the eastern Pyrenees. Temperatures will be very high for the time of year in practically all of Spain this week. Maximums are expected to exceed 25 degrees Celsius generally for several days, and in parts of the south of the Peninsula, they could even reach 34 degrees.

The increase is due to a subtropical air mass arriving in Spain, bringing with it above-normal temperatures and instability, as well as suspended dust. A calima (dust haze) entry is expected in the Peninsula throughout the day from the west, while in the Canary Islands it will subside. “Another episode with summer heat in April,” Aemet announced on its X account.

Since this Monday at 13:00, the agency has maintained yellow warnings, indicating low danger, for probable rains in Huesca, Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Navarre, and La Rioja. Instability will be confined to the peninsular northeast, while in the rest of the country, stable weather with clear or high cloudy skies will prevail. There will also be intervals of low clouds during the morning on the Cantabrian and Mediterranean coasts.

Maximums are expected to fall on the Galician coast and in Ampurdán, with minor changes in the rest of the territory. Minimums will rise in the interior of the Basque Country, Cantabria, northern Burgos, and the upper Ebro.

The wind will be light and variable in the peninsular interior, and moderate easterly winds are expected in the Strait. In the Canary Islands, the wind will be moderate westerly.
