Vox in the Valencian Community has not wanted to lag behind its co-religionists in Extremadura and Aragon and has registered an initiative this Thursday in Les Corts urging the Consell to ask the Government of Spain to guarantee “national priority and the sustainability of the welfare state for Spaniards” and to establish this principle in access to all social aid, public services or housing programs, as well as in access to the public benefits and pensions system. A measure that has been branded as xenophobic and unconstitutional by the Government and left-wing parties.
The party led by Santiago Abascal presents this non-legislative motion (PNL) for special urgent processing days after stating that the principle of “national priority” is already part of the investiture agreement of the popular Juanfran Pérez Llorca, although it had not been put in writing, before both parties have now embodied this concept in the government pacts in Extremadura and Aragon. Now, the ultra-right party, which claims to be proud that the Valencian Community is a pioneer in the pacts between the PP and Vox, has put it down in black and white.
The parliamentary spokesperson for the party, José María Llanos, highlighted in a statement that the proposal registered this Thursday in Les Corts “stems from a clear political diagnosis: the deterioration of the welfare state, the overload of public services, and the loss of social cohesion are a direct consequence of policies promoted for years by successive governments.”

Along these lines, he emphasized the importance that the State and institutions “exist to safeguard the security, justice, and well-being of the national community, and that any public policy must be oriented towards this priority objective.” Llanos has positioned national priority as the “central axis of political debate” and has proposed a model in the Valencian Community that Vox, he affirmed, “has already begun to promote in other territories and aspires to extend to the whole of Spain.”
The initiative, the spokesperson assessed, “reinforces Vox’s position as a political force that proposes a reorientation of public policies towards the protection of the national community and the sustainability of the welfare state.” Furthermore, according to sources from the party, this approach “has already begun to be applied in government agreements such as those reached in Extremadura and Aragon, where national priority has been incorporated as a central tenet of social policies.”
