The Madrid Assembly holds a plenary session this Thursday in which its main protagonist, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will not be present. The president is traveling in Mexico, where she has caused a huge stir due to her previous criticisms of Claudia Sheinbaum and her presence at a tribute to Hernán Cortés, which the Mexican government has interpreted as a provocation. Ayuso has also attended an event at the university created by magnate Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of TV Azteca and also a staunch opponent of Sheinbaum, with whom he has been at odds over a tax debt that the businessman finally settled with a payment of nearly 2 billion dollars.

Suddenly and in a totally unexpected way, Ayuso has become an antagonist to Morena, the Mexican ruling party. She thus positions herself as an international political actor more forcefully than any other member of her party. A loose cannon of the PP like Alberto Ruiz Gallardón once was, the president generates all kinds of passions on both sides and sets her own agenda, regardless of everything happening around her. Why Mexico, precisely? It is not clear. Why now? Neither.
The fact is that it works for her in the media. Madrid’s current affairs have been relocated these days and have moved to Mexico. The minister, secretary general of the Madrid socialists, and the person who will face Ayuso next year in the regional elections, was not amused: “It is unprecedented. It is truly surprising that a political leader can disappear for 10 days.” It will be the president of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Carlos Díaz-Pache, who will be responsible for responding to the opposition spokespeople.

Manuela Bergerot will participate in this debate and Emilio Delgado, one and two of Más Madrid in the Assembly, respectively, will also be present. They do so at a delicate moment for their party, as Delgado’s interest in running in the primaries for Madrid and controlling the left-wing formation has created a rift with the leadership, specifically with the Minister of Health, Mónica García. (Bergerot is on García’s side). However, those two factions of Más Madrid are currently negotiating an agreement that satisfies all parties and unites the party, according to this newspaper.
