At least 15 people have died and more than 130 have been injured in a Russian drone attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This has been confirmed by local authorities, who fear that the number of victims will increase after the drone bombing.
It was a double strike attack. A first drone hit the shopping center and half an hour later, when more people and rescue teams had already arrived at the scene, a second drone struck the area, in a deliberate attempt to cause more casualties. “Attacks like this are nothing but terrorist acts,” Zelensky lamented on the Telegram messaging app, describing the aggression as “absolutely cynical and despicable.”
There are about twenty children among the injured, regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported. “There are 29 people in serious condition, including five children,” Hanzha detailed in a statement. Kryvyi Rih is located in central Ukraine and had about 600,000 inhabitants before the large-scale invasion launched by Moscow in 2022.

The attack occurred just one day after Russia launched a missile offensive against the Kyiv region, the capital of the invaded country, which caused at least 17 deaths and dozens of injuries. The Kremlin has intensified its bombings in recent days due to the shortage of interceptor missiles in Ukraine, which has reduced its ability to defend itself. “We will definitely respond,” Zelensky warned.
Another Russian attack killed four people in the Mykolaiv region, in southern Ukraine, according to the country’s public broadcasting network. The victims were three children and a woman.
