Undoubtedly, Eurovision — which last year achieved an excellent average audience of 50.1% share and 5,884,000 viewers in its final on La 1 — has left a big gap in TVE’s programming, but the public corporation already has a replacement for the night of next Saturday, May 16. For the occasion, it has created a musical alternative: the second special of La casa de la música.

After succeeding with its first program on New Year’s Eve (it gathered an average of 3,908,000 viewers and a 33.4% share with performances like La Oreja de Van Gogh), this show hosted by Jesús Vázquez will double its bet by expanding and inviting more than 20 artists who will perform for two and a half hours, celebrating 70 years of music on TVE.
The performances that will be seen on La 1 from 10:00 p.m. on May 16 (International Day of Peaceful Coexistence) will include established musicians such as Raphael (who participated in Eurovision in 1966 and 1967), Mónica Naranjo, Ana Belén, and Mikel Erentxun, as well as the latest winners of the Benidorm Fest, Tony Grox & Lucycalys. Additionally, Manuel Carrasco, Guitarricadelafuente, before his arrival in Cannes, Metrika, and former Eurovision representative Chanel (the latter two also from the Benidorm Fest) will appear in the special. Some of the performances will be recorded in Studio 5 of Prado del Rey, and others outdoors, as was done in the first special.

By detaching from Eurovision due to Israel’s participation, RTVE also lost the right to promote and broadcast the festival, which in Spain can be seen on YouTube on the official website. The other countries that are not attending the contest have made different decisions. The Slovenian public broadcaster, for example, will dedicate that week to special programming for Palestine, with the broadcast of the documentary ¡Coexistencia, y qué más!. Ireland will not broadcast it, the Netherlands will, although not on the public AVROTROS, and Iceland, one of the countries with the most following, will program it.
Spaniards who want to vote for their favorite country in the festival held this year in Vienna (Austria) can do so on the festival’s website, through a global system called Rest of the World for countries that do not participate in Eurovision. The votes, however, will be counted as if they were from a single country.
