The forest fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in Aldea del Fresno, one of the 17 municipalities already affected by the July fires in the Sierra Oeste of Madrid, continues this Thursday its good progress after affecting 330 hectares. According to information from the 112 Comunidad de Madrid at 7:00 this Thursday, “during the night, the 17 teams of Firefighters and Forest Firefighters have been working on the ground extinguishing hot spots and consolidating the perimeter thanks to the work of heavy machinery.”
The fire “has a positive evolution.” When there is daylight, an evaluation will be carried out and technical decisions will be made. For now, the situation remains at operational level 1 of the Infoma Plan of the Community of Madrid, which was lowered at midnight from level 2 that had been declared during the afternoon.
Situation 1 or moderate emergency occurs when a fire affects non-forest assets, while level 2 or serious emergency means the fire seriously threatens urban centers and people and requires the incorporation of state support resources, such as the UME.
“This decision [to lower the emergency level] has been motivated by the stabilization work carried out in recent hours and by the improvement in wind and temperature conditions,” said the 112. Around 23:00 on Wednesday, the fire had been stabilized.
Given the good progress of the situation, all confinements were lifted and the return to homes of people evacuated from urbanizations of Aldea del Fresno and Villamantilla was allowed. The two sections closed on the M-507 and M-510 roads were also reopened to traffic.
