The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Valencian Community has taken the first step to investigate the Vox regional deputies David Muñoz and Jesús Albiol, who a month ago boasted in the Valencian Courts about handling confidential information from a judicial case under secrecy in Nules (Castellón) that had allegedly been leaked to them by a prosecutor, as captured by an open microphone in the Chamber. In the same conversation, in which the participants were unaware they were being listened to, the deputies called the socialist representative Alicia Andújar a “witch.”

The public ministry now decides to open pre-trial investigation proceedings and appoint an instructor following a complaint from the PSPV-PSOE, according to the document accessed by EL PAÍS. “In the recording, one of them [deputies] can be heard reporting that he had personal information about one of the individuals under investigation in a Nules case,” the Prosecutor’s Office document states. The socialists denounced the facts — which they described as “very serious” — and asked the public ministry to open proceedings to verify the truthfulness of the alleged leak that the extremist party representatives boasted about.
The controversial conversation took place on July 15. During the break of the Economy, Budgets, and Finance Committee of the Valencian Courts, the Vox parliamentarians held a casual conversation. In it, David Muñoz is heard asking Jesús Albiol about an intervention by the socialist Alicia Andújar and the Compromís deputy Jesús Pla: “What did you think about the use of privileged information? Nobody knows, I know because the prosecutor told me.” Muñoz refers to a case of a gang dedicated to human trafficking dismantled in Nules, about which he had claimed “they were all Pakistanis.” The information was known since the police operation was disclosed. “Privileges… No, but I’m freaking out, especially with the PSOE one,” Albiol replies. Then, he first refers to the Compromís deputy and comments: “He still maintains a calmer tone, although he says many outrageous things, but it’s a different tone.” Then, he attacks the PSPV parliamentarian: “But the witch Andújar is terrible.”
Muñoz opines that this same deputy “uses a tone of voice that makes her unlikeable” and points out: “If she used a different tone of voice, maybe she would be tough, but not like…”. Albiol then replies: “But she also says outrageous things, but she says them differently. Well, if they want to kill you…”. At that moment, he answers a call on his mobile and turns off his microphone. Alicia Andújar, the deputy mentioned, denounced the “machismo” of the Vox parliamentarians. She stated that the comments against her “clearly reflect what Vox intends with women,” which is “the same old machismo: women can speak, but quietly, smiling, and without causing discomfort.”
