The police arrested two more people on Tuesday night for the death of the singer Matías de Paula last May 15 in the municipality of Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz, 25,773 inhabitants). Their arrest adds to the apprehension yesterday at noon of a man considered the author of the shots that ended the life of Matías Corraliza Fernández, the real name of the 52-year-old flamenco singer. The three involved in the crime are family members and, for now, new arrests are ruled out, according to the Government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana, who reported this Wednesday. The government representative did not specify the facts attributed to the last two arrested, nor the place where their arrest took place because the case remains under secrecy. Their presentation to the court is scheduled for next Friday.

Matías de Paula was shot dead last Friday near Rafael Alberti square in the town of Badajoz, close to the house where his mother lived. The singer went out onto the street, around 3:00 p.m., to meet some people who had summoned him through messages and received him with gunfire. He fell to the ground after receiving a shot to the head, according to several witnesses of the event. The suspects fled the scene and since then, both the victim’s direct family and the alleged attacker’s family have avoided the area, several neighbors say.
The first arrest came yesterday Tuesday at noon. The alleged shooter, who responds to the initials F.S., was arrested in the neighboring town of Magacela, about 13 kilometers from Villanueva de la Serena. The suspect, already identified by the police, took a taxi and after a dispute with the driver, ended up stabbing him, according to sources familiar with the case. The taxi driver went to a health center and upon recounting what had happened, a joint operation between the Civil Guard and Police was activated, which ended up arresting him.
One of the main hypotheses of the crime is the jealousy that the alleged shooter had over the relationship between his ex-wife and the singer Matías de Paula. The main suspect, with a police record for gender violence, had been released from prison a few days ago and went to meet the singer with some family members. A spokesperson for the deceased’s family explained on Monday on the program Espejo Público of Antena 3 that Matías de Paula had had a relationship with the woman “as teenagers,” when they were 14 or 15 years old, and that she had tried to resume contact with the singer by writing to him through social networks. The family maintains that Matías de Paula had no relationship with the woman and that he went out with the intention of talking to the ex-husband.
