UNAM Control Exam: who will have to retake the entrance test, dates and application venues

Suspicions of massive fraud in the virtual entrance exam of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) have led the country’s largest public university to repeat the admission test in an unprecedented decision.

In total, 58,000 applicants have been called to retake the evaluation, this time in person, following accusations of cheating in the online version. The measure has sparked protests among those who must retake the exam and concerns about the logistics involved in organizing the new process. In contrast, around 100,000 applicants were excluded because they did not obtain a place or because their results were not within the scores considered atypical.

UNAM set the new Control Exam between August 12 and 19 in different cities across the country.

Dates and venues

• León, Guanajuato (August 12 and 13)

• Oaxaca, Oaxaca (August 13)

• Tijuana, Baja California (August 15 and 16)

• Mexico City (August 17, 18 and 19)

Starting August 7, applicants who have scored above the average of previous years can check on the TU SITIO portal the exact date, time, venue, location map, and the documentation required to take their exam.

Who must take the control exam?

UNAM has called the people selected in the 2026 admission process who obtained a number of correct answers equal to or higher than the minimum score with which admission was achieved to the same program, campus, and modality in any of the admission processes of 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026.

To verify if the exam must be retaken, the university has enabled a table with the minimum admission scores by major. If the number of correct answers obtained in the virtual exam is equal to or higher than the minimum between 2021 and 2026, the control exam must be retaken. For example, in Architecture, the minimum score was 90 correct answers at the Faculty of Architecture, and 77 at the FES Acatlán and Aragón. In Civil Engineering, the minimum was 61 correct answers at FES Acatlán, 60 at FES Aragón, and 81 at the Faculty of Engineering. The complete table with minimum scores by major can be consulted at the following link.

When will the new course start?

Once the selection process is repeated and the accepted applicants are confirmed, classes will begin on August 31, four weeks after the originally scheduled date. At other levels, the school year will start on August 17, one week later than planned.
